“Visual Poetry” at the Art Center of the Capital Region aims to create a focus on “work that is to be seen as well as read,” according to the show statement. Much of the best work here can quite literally be read, with words taking on a key role.

But in a twist, a lot of the show has to be “read” in a more intuitive way, without words. Take “Summer Orange” by Yeachin Tsai, a painting on linen that is mostly about red and orange half-disc shapes floating on a flat, ivory plane. The shapes are simple, the fruity orange slices elegant in their wordless simplicity.
